Sunrise on the Nashik ghats

Why the old riverside of Nashik is my favourite place for a pre-wedding shoot, and how to plan a morning there.

Couples often ask me for a location that feels like Nashik, not like a studio set. My answer is almost always the same: come to the ghats before sunrise.

At that hour the river is calm, the light is soft and pink, and the old city is only just waking up. Temple bells, the first chai, a few people on the steps. It feels like a film set that nobody built.

Why mornings, not evenings

Evenings at the ghats are beautiful but busy. In the morning you get space, quiet and light that flatters everyone. Traditional outfits glow, and nobody is squinting.

Then walk into the lanes

Once the sun is up we leave the river and walk. Old wadas, carved wooden doors, painted walls of gods and kings. Every corner gives a new frame, and walking keeps couples relaxed instead of posing.

The best frames happen between the poses, while you are walking and talking to each other.
