A carnival haldi, in lavender

Flower-covered ATVs, bubbles and a lot of dancing: photographing Palak and Suparsh’s carnival-themed haldi.

Haldi is usually the loudest, messiest and happiest function of an Indian wedding. Palak and Suparsh took that and turned it into a carnival.

The theme was lavender and pastel pink, with a giant ‘Carnival Wali Haldi’ sign, stilt walkers, flower bubbles and the couple arriving on an ATV covered in roses.

Photographing a party

At a function this energetic my job is to stay close and stay out of the way. Long lenses for the candid laughs, wide lenses in the middle of the dancing, and always one eye on the grandparents.

When tradition meets the vibe: high on energy, full-on dhamaal.

Black and white, for the quiet moments

In between the chaos there are always a few seconds of calm: a look, a hand held a little longer. I like to keep some of those in black and white so they feel timeless next to all the colour.
